Ashes were not an unusual sight in 2017 with the Atlas Fire just over the ridge, but the breeze blew most of them away. However, the ashes that fell into spider webs stayed much longer. In late 2018, thick smoke from the Camp Fire hung over the region for days.
Little spider webs with ashes made lots of little white spots on the asphalt!
I wanted to get some photos of the park with the lingering smoke, so I finally headed out. When I arrived, I was the only crazy hiker! But later in the park I passed two other regulars. I thought it was interesting that when I was up at the lake, the air was actually less smoky. But you had to hike up there! Luckily, my lungs are not compromised.
Looking out towards Suisun Valley.
Tilley Hill.
Looking towards Willotta Oaks and Suisun Valley. The smoke was very much thicker in the lowlands.
