I guess this wasn't really "left behind." But by the very end of January you should be able to part with your Christmas tree!
As far as I know, there are no sycamore trees in Rockville Hills Regional Park. That means someone had to bring these seed pods and leave them on the trail by the lake.
Now that's unusal!
And a little bit further ...
Found a whole bunch of unknown seed pods near the lake one day (Spring 2019).
This is San Joaquin milkvetch. These pods (from Contra Costa County) are the most similar seed pods I know of locally.
Appears to be a rock wrapped with plastic tape.
The painted-rock person strikes again. This time with an encouraging "Be [leaf] in yourself." Riiiiight.
