Amphibians - American Bullfrog
Lithobates catesbeianus
The American Bullfrog tadpole is much larger than the darker Western Toad (Anaxyrus boreas) tadpoles.
The bottom tadpole has formed legs.
This bullfrog still has his tail.
Bullfrogs--especially juveniles--make a chirping noise when they sense danger. Usually they chirp right before jumping into the safety of the water.
The circle below and behind the eye is the tympanic membrane--an eardrum. In females, the eardrum is roughly the size of the eye (as this bullfrog's are). The males have eardrums that are larger than their eyes.
